LOOP SCHOOL

MAIN CONCEPT

Our vision for a future school of architecture is an open framework. An “Open Source” School with a

strong spirit of experimentation “Learn by doing”. A work in progress and raw building that connects

students, teachers, researchers, entrepreneurs and citizens. It is not about form/shape. It is all about space,

people and networking. We created a “loop” school where everything is connected: outdoor and indoor,

public and private areas, local and global. It is aimed to be flexible and scalable (DYT – Do it together), a

tridimensional “Tetris” with multiple variations. We propose a social and creative LAB for the

architecture of tomorrow. A sustainable school locally anchored and internationally oriented

TOP DOWN STRATEGY URBAN SCALE

Rethink the concept of an architecture school is a great opportunity not only to experiment new interior

spatial connections, but also a chance to think about “act locally and think globally”. For that reason, we

adopted a top down strategy. We started our design from the global master plan to the flexible interior

spaces. Following our global approach, the school is articulated as part of a new urban district. To open

the school to the city, we designed two main axes that connect the urban areas with the center of the

school. The intersection of these two flows not only generates the heart of the school (common space) but

also creates green exterior spaces. The school becomes a public hub that will contribute to social

commitment experimentation.

THE BUILDING

To promote a campus environment, we did not designed a school as a scattered structure nor a single

building, instead, we created a set of volumes connected through an horizontal circulation flow – a school

as a neighborhood. The building has three different levels with blurred borders: Public, Semi- Public and

Private. In all of these environments we can feel the typical danish “HYGGE” atmosphere.

THE PROGRAM

The heart of the school is the common space, a multifunctional area with public access which works as

social/professional meeting point. This is the center of the loop circulation. A perfect space for network.

On the ground level we can find the public program - auditorium, civic restaurant, exhibition area and

library. The second level / platform we will find the secondary common spaces - small and flexible

squares. The third level is formed by prefabricated structures with a high degree of flexibility –

classrooms, labs, workshop rooms, etc
